Curtiss Sparrowhawk
| This Curtiss Sparrowhawk flew from and was retrieved by the dirigible USS Macon. Bay area residents and visitors can't miss Hangar 1 at Moffett Field, built to house the huge airship. These small patrol aircraft flew below the dirigible and hooked onto a trapeze structure; they were then brought into the airship. Takeoffs were simply a matter of starting the engine and letting go the hook. |
